Commentary From the Trading Desk.
February was another strong month for the trading desk, with trading taking place on all but one day. The team delivered a Maximum Net Return of 1.34%, while the average net return stood just below 0.85%. Overall, it was a performance the desk was pleased with, reflecting consistent opportunities throughout the month.

From an economic perspective, both locally and globally, South Africa's GDP grew by 0.6% in the fourth quarter (October–December), falling 0.3% short of forecasts. Growth was primarily driven by the agriculture, finance, and trade sectors on the supply side. Internationally, tariffs remain a key discussion point, with ongoing pressure from the Trump administration impacting global markets. While the initial effects were unfavorable for the ZAR, the currency has since begun to recover, and much of the initial uncertainty has subsided.

We remain optimistic that March will bring favorable conditions for the premium. If the ZAR maintains its strength and positive momentum continues in the cryptocurrency space, we could see encouraging movements ahead.
