Last month the Premium held up especially well trending 2.6% Gross, noting some clients made profits as much as 3.4%. Looking back on the past 4 months, the Premium has trended higher than we expected, showing really positive signs for the arbitrage offering. The primary driver here has been rand strength due to US rate decreases priced in towards the end of the year, and over 40 days with no load shedding.

Pressure will come as more participants return to these profit levels, like those we saw over 2 years ago. The maturity of the Stablecoin markets is certainly having a positive effect on the Premium, while our unique arbitrage offering stands out as its actively seeking “Alpha”, and outperforming our competition by 20-30%. How is this possible? We trade actively and frequently throughout the day chipping away at opportunities which the FSCA licences afford us, utilizing various strategies to capitalise on the ZAR / USD and the Stablecoin moves.
